Open angle for heavier backspin

Strokes

Hi there,

W/ this... when there is more backspin, you say to move your bat in a more vertical movement.  Do you try opening up the bat angle at all for heavy backspin?  (or no matter how much backspin, your bat angle in your wrist remains the same, but the stroke is either more forward (less backspin) or more vertical (more backspin).

I was wonder this because in the flicks you mention opening up the bat angle for heavy backspin...was wondering if the same reasoning and technique applies here in this stroke.

Hi Pista,

You can open the angle of the bat as well as having a more vertical stroke or a combination of the two to lift the ball over the net.

With a more closed angle and a faster stroke you will generate more speed.

With a more vertical slower stroke you will get a slower result with a higher trajectory over the net.
