Not telegraphing my backhand?

Strokes

I was watching your video on the backhand topspin. Once I start getting the basic stroke down, facing the direction I want to hit it, do you recommend any techniques for varying the direction of my shot angle as it relates to my body to avoid telegraphing my backhand or will that just mess up the stroke?

Hi Dion,

Once you get the basics right, the rest is easy.

To change direction it is just a matter of changing slightly the angle of your blade. If you think of your wrist as a rudder you can just change the rudder position a little to make the ball go to different parts of the table. It doesn't take much of a change in the wrist to make a big difference at the other end.

If you have more time you can change the position of your feet slightly as well, but this does give away your hitting position a little as well.

Try it out.

Forehand Smash

The forehand smash is used when the ball is around shoulder height or above. It is a much harder stroke to play than it looks. Follow the tips on this video lesson to ensure your smash is an effective weapon.
