Hi dearest Olympians,

I was wondering, are there any pro table tennis players who are or have been referred to by nicknames? I see sometimes that Xu Xin is called the Cloudwalker on the net. Do you know of any others? What were/are they called?

Regards

Hi Dieudo,

I don't know too many.

Perhaps we could start a list of Nicknames here for the Professional players.

I heard many times that Waldner is widely known in China as "Evergreen Tree" because of his longevity.
I also read Jorgen Persson is called "Cobra" by a few people because of his backhand.

Zhang Jike is often referred as "Tibetian Mastiff". I once saw a match with Marcos Freitas commented by Adam Bobrow, and Adam called Marcos the "Freight train", I don't know if it was his common nickname.

Thanks guys for your answers. I suppose the 'Evergreen Tree' can apply to Samsonov as well now. I wonder if there's a nickname for Waldner that has to do with his perfect placement of the ball and his famous 'feel' for it.
