Hello Alois I have difficulty to put a topspin when I get a backspin serve on my forehand.  I want my ball to do like your video slow spinny topspin but I can not get the ball out of the table. And when I close my racket the ball passes in the net could you help me please.

And again my backspin serve does not have enough effect to help me please.

Hi Yanis,

To get the slow spinny topspin working you need a fine brushing contact on the ball which can take a bit of practice.  Have a very vertical stroke to get this contact.

Try this training drill.  Get someone to hold a piece of wood about a meter above the net and then try to get the ball over the wood and onto the table.  Practice this for about 10 minutes and see what happens to your stroke.

For the backspin serve, move away from the table and get the ball to come back to you on the floor first.  Once you can do this, you will have the feel of the contact you need on the ball to generate backspin.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
