Training
Hi,
I am a beginner/intermediate player who has recently been getting 1 on 1 coaching once a week. However, on one side of his racket he has pips out.
All the players I play against at work and my club do not use pips out racket. Do you think this will present a problem? I'm concerned I'll get used to countering pips out, but then struggle against my normal opponents at work who don't use them.
As additional info, I have no plans to enter tournaments or anything like that.
Thanks,
David
Hi David,
It may effect your strokes initially.
He will probably use the inverted side to hit to you most of the time which would be preferable.
The forehand and backhand topspin strokes are two of the most important strokes in table tennis. In lesson 6 you start playing these strokes first by getting someone to throw the ball to you. This makes it easier to get into the correct position and concentrate on the correct start and finish position, and the essential brushing contact. You can then progress to using this in a rally where your training partner learns to block the topspin back.
