Movement and forehand timing to body directed shots

Strokes

I find miss more shots to the right hand side near my body. I find it difficult to get in the right position to get a decent swing on the shot. Sometimes if ball is short I play too wristy shot which is inconsistent. Some of it is nerves where the legs do not move or I go for shots less. In my last match I realised if I wait a bit longer this allows time to move and swing I get a proper shot. I do not have the same problem on the backhand. Are there any drills for this sideways movement to the left with shot preparation?

Hi Phil,

One thing that can really help is to bend your knees more.  This allows you to sway out of the way and still be balanced when you contact the ball.

Give this a try and let me know how it goes.

Stop Coming Back to Ready Position! Do This Instead…

Most players are told to always return to the ready position after every stroke but that might be hurting your game. In this video, we reveal a smarter way to recover:

✔ Track the ball immediately after your shot
✔ Move your racket into position for the next shot instead of blindly resetting
✔ Improve your timing, balance, and flow during rallies

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced player, understanding this subtle change can have a big impact on your consistency and speed around the table.
