Dear Coach,

I have recently switched from regular Butterfly Wakaba II rubber (pre-made bat) to a custom bat prepared by myself.

I used Joola Carbon Blade and Mark V rubber on both side. I did the google to know that the carbon blades are fast but then when i play, it feels like jonyer blades which my friends have with same rubbers are much faster.

Is it my perception or have I done something wrong in assembling the bat?

Something I did not used standard was the glue (I actually used fevibond glue instead of speed glues) but I guess, that should not have caused that drastic change.

Is it possible for me to get help in that context? Or will I have to finally change the Bat because, the way I sticked the rubber to the bat, I really doubt it would easily come off :(

Thanks,

Dheeraj

Hi Dheeraj,

The glue could have made a big difference.

I would recommend you try to remove the rubber very carefully.  I don’t know the fevibond glue that you have used.  Hopefully it will allow you to peel the rubbers off again.  THen you should on;y use Table Tennis approved water based glues to stick your rubber on.

Hi Dheeraj,

Just adding my own experience with joola carbon blade and mark 5 rubbers. The carbon blade makes it very fast when u are hitting it flat. But, the moment you try top spinning it, the ball flies off or gets into the net. This is as the delve time is really small. Changing the blade to jonyer or donic pearsson (thats what I got) made a big difference to my strokes. Accuracy was nearly up by 50%.

Alois has stressed that slower blades are best when starting out and I felt that replacing the faster carbon blade was the best thing that I did.

I had asked Alois the same question and also to many coaches and better players. As they are better players, they could adjust to the faster carbon blade and shorter delve time.

But, my recommendation would be to change to a blade tthat wins you more points. Hope this helps you.

Cheerio
