Strokes
Hi coach.
Just watched one of Ma Long's matches between him and timo boll in wttc And I noticed that his finish positions when he loops aren't in front of his head like you said in videos but players like zhang jike and wang hao finish in front of their heads.
But Ma long and wang liqin pass their head and finish in front of their left shoulder.
Could you please explain why they dont finish in the same position and which one is better?
Hi Ali,
He has an extreme finish but he also turns his whole body. When he pivots and plays a forehand from the backhand corner he does go past the midline but on the forehand side you will see that he finishes in the position in front of the head.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.

Ma long uses more power and less controll in a match, if you look at a video of ma long training his forhand topspin you will notice that he does finish in the front of his head
