Hi coaches

I'm not very sure how do you do this stroke. Looks like a mini version of the bh topspin and it looks like a upgrade on the backhand sidespin flick. So which one is it?

It is mandarin so just watch the stroke.

Thanks

Hi Mat,

That is just a backhand flick with a bit of sidespin sometimes.  He is varying the sidespin that he puts on the ball.  This is determined by his start position.  When he goes further back with the backswing he gets more sidespin.  When he has a short backswing he gets more pure topspin on the flick.

When you need to reach that really wide ball the regular shuffle step just won't get you there in time so you need to use the crossover step. This is essentially a running action to get you to the ball as fast as possible.
