Losing Confidence

Mental Preparation

Some days before, our coach had held a tournament. One of my friend playing in under-12 saw the draw and fainted! Really!

He was going to play with a very very strong player who had been champion for last some competitions. He was crying for a lot of time. I told him to be confident but he was not able to be.

He mentally had lost the match when he not had physically even started playing. So he had no chances of winning.

I want to give advise to him but I do not know what should I tell him.

Please tell me what should he do to increase his confidence. He is a good player but loses due to mental weakness.

Hi Kaustubh,

Try to get him to focus on one point at a time and work on what he is going to do for that point only. If you try to think too far ahead the task will be overwhelming.
