Looping against long pimples chop

I train regularly with a heavy chop defensive player who has smooth rubber one face and long pimples on the other. My looping against the smooth rubber heavy chop is going very well - technique, consistency etc.

Yet I seem to be getting worse against the long pimples heavy chop - I can't seem to figure out what I need to do. If I replicate the same shot off the smooth rubber, the ball tends to 'fall off' the face of my bat. Yet this is against a chop ball that seems to have much less backspin on it.

I'd be very grateful for your advice. Congratulations again on this fantastic website!!

Hi Sydney,

Thanks for your comment about the website.

When you topspin to a long pimple rubber and they chop it back, they get more backspin.  The heavier your topspin the heavier the backspin that will come back.  If you don't give them much topspin, they will have more difficulty in generating backspin.

Even though this ball looks like they are not putting any spin on it in fact it has a lot of backspin.

If you always remember this you will start to be able to get this ball back.  It is deceptive because the action of the chop may make you think that there is little spin but in fact there is a lot.
