Hi,

Your ask the coach forums are very good. But their main disadvantage is that they are offline. Please make  a live chat system by which we can interact between Pingskills users.

Hi Nikhil,

It is an interesting idea.  Jeff and I have been thinking of ways to make this happen.

If anyone else has an idea along these lines it would be great to hear from you.

excellent suggestion nikhil!  it would be super-sweet to be able to chat anytime with other pingskills aficionados!

@alois: here are a couple free and open-source chat systems i found via quick google search, the first one looks especially rich and powerful (looks like y'all are running PHPs with MySQL in the backend, so either one should slot-in nicely with your existing architecture):

very good suggestion i guess, i would also say you guys can also think of hosting webinars and announce them well in advance till the time you can set up the live chat system...

I like the idea of starting with some webinars to gauge the interest level and effect. I'll discuss it with Alois and see if we can put something together.

webinars are not a particular easy thing to setup and execute...speaking as someone who has to do that as part of their day-to-day work.  :)  also, they are synchronous, which is problematical for user bases spanning many time zones.

also, another potential idea is a separate forum, that is not dedicated to "ask the coach".  that way, users could asynchronously create/post-in/read threads and rooms for their individual subjects of interest, like penholders, shakehand, recent tournaments, classic matches, favorite players, match advice, etc

here is an example: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/

Maybe you could add a link like on blogs, to facilitate the chatting system thingy? Don't know how it works though.

We've actually implemented our own and are just testing it now. If you want to try it then head over to the PingSkills Chat Room and let me know what you think.

It's still only in development so we will be making some small changes. We'll also let you know when Alois or myself is going to be online.
