Hi Jacob. If you don't know, the unclear serve like Liu's is ilegal. It's also hard to do because our wrist isn't able to move as easy like the penhold grip. I also very like this serve. Alois told me "Liu Guoliang does a pendulum serve. He just does it very well. To generate different spins you need to brush the ball finely and at various angles. To generate the backspin he is brush under the ball and for the sidespin with backspin he is brushing more on the side of the ball but going down on it.". In the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkAD6aJuwfg he brush the ball to his body and open his free arm to show his hand brush to the opposite way. He's like faking his serve and make it unpredictable. For me it's hard to do. He is awesome.
