Hi Alois and Jeff. I wanted to ask you how to return a backhand sidespin serve from a left handed player
Hi Raghav,
Think about the direction that the ball is wanting to go. It will want to go off your bat to your left. So you need to angle your bat to face your right more.
Then you can experiment with the type of shot you play. You can try to flick the serve if it has some topspin or push it if it has backspin.
The pendulum and reverse pendulum serves are two of the most commonly used and deceptive serves in table tennis. In this video, we’ll break down the key differences between these serves and discuss strategies for returning them effectively. You’ll learn the basic principles of serve return, including how to read spin, adjust your positioning, and respond confidently to different variations of these tricky serves. Whether you're facing these serves in a match or looking to improve your overall return game, this video will help you take your skills to the next level. Watch now and master the art of returning pendulum and reverse pendulum serves!

Is that right Alois? I thought is was the other way around. Won't it move out to my back-hand side (as a right-handed) so when it strikes the bat it will want to jump to my right. Therefore I have to angle my bat to the left (same direction the ball was moving)?
If I'm wrong, it could explain a lot of failed returns for me :)
Ah you are right... I must have been looking in the mirror. The ball will go to you right...
