I want to know that how during a match I can recognise my opponent's strengths and weaknesses when I am facing him for the 1st time. I have never seen him playing ever before.

You can use the 2 minutes warm up to find out a few things about his game. If you get a chance to watch him practicing before you play him this could also help.
