Hi Alois.  Ignoring equipment effects, how can I increase the dwell time during my FH topspin stroke to help increase the topspin I generate?

Cheers

Hi Rohan,

Try to push more forward onto the ball on contact.  A slower swing will also help.

The pivot is where you are moving around your backhand corner to play a forehand. This is something that will come in handy in a match situation, especially if you have a stronger forehand. We will show you the best way to move in the pivot footwork.

So I should be pushing or 'throwing' the ball back rather than 'hitting' it back.  Yes?  Is this correct - I start with a slightly slower swing, make contact with the ball near the top of the bat and accelerate the swing as I brush over the ball?

I seem to achieve this occasionally but other than hearing the difference in contact and the obvious increase in spin, I can't really distinguish that I'm doing anything different in the stroke.  Is there a feeling I should be looking for?

It is difficult to describe but you may feel like you are almost catching and throwing the ball, even though that isn't what is actually happening.

OK thx.  It's a bit like a surprise attack in tag ball then when you try to catch and throw the ball in one motion.  I'll give it a try.

You should feel the ball "hanging" on your rubber during the stroke,I would say.

OK.  Got it. Don't always succeed but I know what I'm trying to replicate now.  :)  Cheers
