Equipment
Dear Mr Jeff Plumb,
I'm joining in a competition for people who are teachers in my district in the middle of November.
I've just played table tennis for some months and i start using long pimples bat from the first time.
I think it's not really suitable for a new player like me, but if now i change to simple rubber i will certainly play worse than before. So please show me some ways to use the long pimples bat effectively.
May be I will use a simple rubber bat after this competition.
Thank you very much for all of your helps.
Regards,
Thanh
Hi Thanh,
Using a long pimple bat is best if you use a defensive style. So mainly using the push and chop strokes with the rubber. You can try to absorb the speed of your opponent with it rather than trying to make the speed or attack.
Look t our lessons on the Backhand Chop for some demonstrations of how Jeff uses the Long Pimples.

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
