Hi Karlo,

It really depends on what type of stroke you prefer to get back. You see the anti-spin is a very slippery rubber that cannot generate much spin on it's own. In fact if you play a topspin stroke, then when the ball is returned with anti-spin, it keeps a lot of your spin which comes back to you as backspin. Conversely when you play a backspin stroke that spin come back to you as topspin or at least with no spin.

What this means is that you really control what type of spin you get back when you play to the anti-spin.

I would recommend playing with spin to the anti-spin rubber. If you play with no spin you limit your options. As long as you understand how the ball will come back to you off various shots and remember you are in control, you should be fine.

Let me know if this helps you out.

Hi Jeff and Karlo,

I  disagree  with Jeff on playing with spin against anti-spin rubbers.

An anti-spin player  relies on gspinny balls from his opponent to play his  game at its best.

If you play no-spin balls to his anti-spin  instead he will have much trouble and will only be able to play no-spin balls back to you.

if you play backspin ball  they can easily attack.

if you play topspin they will chop-block returning a heavy backspin ball that won't be easy to attack.

A very effective strategy against antispin (backhand) players is to serve long fast and no spin ball to their backhand.

Thus  they will only be able to return your serve with a no-spin ball which you can   attack with a hard drive aiming to their antispin again.

a fast drive to their antispin is the hardest shot for them to deal with.

 Hope this helps !

Ciao!

Marco

Hi Marco,

Thanks for your thoughts and experiences. Serving long and fast as a surprise tactic can be effective. You just need to make sure they don't twiddle and attack your serve.

I still think that as long as you understand what spin you will get back there is no danger in playing with spin. A lot of the anti-spin players love the game with no spin and might be more consistent then you at this type of game.
