Hi Alois,

Whenever I try to serve so fast, it goes away from the table and whenever I try to serve so close to the net, it either lands on the net or my opponent whips it across the table.  I am really working hard on my serve.  Sometimes, whenever I try to serve so fast, my opponent smashes it.

Kindly give me some valuable tips to improve my serve.

Thanks and Regards,
Ram

Hi Ram,

For the fast serve also focus on the height over the net.  Try to get the ball as close to the net as possible. You can put up a string about 10 cm above the net as a guide.

Work by putting some targets on the table and getting the ball to skid off the targets as fast as possible.

I know we say this often, but practice and more practice is what is required to get the serve just right.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.
