How to get through a tough training week

Training

Hello,

This summer I am visiting a table tennis camp. It will consist of five days in a row, each day something like two hours in the morning with group training and in several afternoons individual training sessions. It seems to me that is quite a lot in a row (plus I am 50 and while I am not untrained, I lack the stamina of a youngster). Are there any tips how to keep up fitness during such a strenuous week full of training? Or should I just take it as it comes and step back a little when I feel tired?

Hi Otfried,

I think the best way is to monitor how you are feeling with each session.  Also make sure you are doing things like stretching after each session, eating well and relaxing in between sessions as much as you can.

Try to use every session as well as you can.

What should you do when you get forced back from the table? Should you just close your eyes and try and smash the ball back? Should you lob the ball back and try and stay in the point? This week in our master class we discuss your options and when to use the lob, chop or counter attack.

Google "how to last longer", you'll get tons of answers!

Just kidding... Also drink a lot and regularly, it's crucial to limit pain in the joints.
