Strokes
When committing to a forehand loop return is it sufficient to keep the bat vertical when driving the ball from under the table with a brushing technique . What if the opponent chops with heavy backspin, is it the power of the drive and the vertical brushing that counts or do I need to open my bat more.
Hi Ugo,
The amount of lift you get depends on both the angle of you swing and the speed of you swing. The faster the contact the more lift you will get.
The banana flick has become one of the most important returns in table tennis. It allows you to attack almost any short ball and places your opponent under immediate pressure. Still it is a difficult stroke that takes a lot of practice to master.

So does one still have to judge how hard and fast the brushing contact is to execute the loop, in case one overshoots the ball beyond the tableĀ

Yes,you need to judge each stroke as each stroke has different speed, different flatness and also different angle-but mainly you are never facing the same stroke twice
