How important is attacking first

Strategy

Hi there,

I was wondering how important attacking first is? I know it gives you the upper hand, but won't a well-placed block or counter loop easily take that advantage away? The reason I ask this is because I have an all-round game similar to Samsonov and therefore I don't really try to attack first all the time or practice it during training, but should I prepare it in case I play someone who has a very good attack?

Hi Oliver,

Attacking first is a good general tactic.  Some players will feel more comfortable playing in different ways.  Being an all rounder and blocking the ball can also work well.

A good long push can be effective as can a well placed block.  However at the very highest level attacking first usually wins the day.

Oh, I see. So should I just practice it as preparation for when I get to a higher level?
