Dear Coach,

What are the advantages and the disadvantages of holding a shakehand bat with your index finger pointing towards the middle of the bat while the other fingers are on the handle?

Hi Kevin,

The one advantage of putting your index finger up in the middle of the bat is that you will feel like you get more control of the bat.

However there is a big disadvantage in that it restricts your wrist movement and will therefore restrict the amount of spin you can get on the ball.

It is much better to keep your finger down low on the bat.
