Hi

what is the technique of hitting high balls to the opponent's half, standing away from your own side of the table when the opponent topspins? I have difficulty because I tend to ovehit it, or hitting it very close to the net.

Also, what do you create the topspin effect in this high balls? Thank you.

Hi Jin Meng,

You can topspin these balls back.  You need to start with your bat quite high and brush the top of the ball.  If the ball is up high enough though it is probably better to use a smash rather than a topspin.

Ok thank you. That was useful. I guessed I phrased the question wrongly..I mean how to I hit high balls to the opponent table?? Not me smashing down the high balls. Sorry and thanks.

Ah... sorry.  You need to do a 'lob' shot.  We have a lesson on it.  Take a look at this one on the Lob on our Lessons page.
