Hi Ashley,

It is possible to do a heavy backspin serve.  You need to be able to brush the ball at the base of the ball.  Start by trying this away from the table and see if you can get the ball to come back towards you.  You can do this on the ground or some carpet.  Once you feel like you are able to do this then step up to the table and see if you can do the same thing on the table.  It doesn't necessarily have to be a serve, just get the ball to come back towards you on the table.  then you can progress to attempting some serves.

We have our Serving Secrets Revealed DVD which shows you all of this in great detail.

By brushing the ball fast you will get more underspin.

Alois, to get maximum backspin in this serve should u contact near the end of your bat or the centre sweet spot area?

Try to get it closer to the end of your bat.  This is travelling faster and will be able to generate more spin.
