hello, I'm having trouble with he zhi wen's serve, i got the spin down, but the ball doesn't travel very far and very fast, could it be because of my slightly closed stance or maybe my toss isn't high enough?
could you please elaborate on this serve and the proper techniques needed to perform it?

thanks

Hi Fabian,

Try just hitting the ball a little flatter.  This will increase the speed of the ball.  Also then try to get you bat moving through faster.  I always like to get players to aim for a spot off the end of the table in practice to get the ball faster.  You will find that at first it is difficult to get the ball off the end.

what do you mean when you say hit the ball flatter, i thought the key to the serve is to add side spin?

Yes you are right, but you need a balance between a fine contact to get spin and a flatter contact to get the ball fast enough.  Keep trading these two off till you get the balance right.
