Hi Pingskills,

In a match situation I often force my opponent away from the table. Then he gives me a high ball and I start smashing them one after another. But in some time when the ball is deep to my side of the table and I make I weaker smash, my opponent comes closer to table and gives me a lower ball to my my forehand. It's not so low but not very high. So I topspin the ball. But then he gives me the same ball wide into my backhand. I'm unable to make the forehand topspin. That way I try the backhand smash\topspin but very often I miss it. He also adds sidespin sometimes. That makes the ball very hard for me to return.

Hi Nasko,

Try not to do too much with the ball until they give you a shorter ball.  For most of the shots just topspin them to the backhand side so they can't attack back at you and then wait for the shorter ball to attack fast.

I think you have to smash the ball stronger.

Another thing to try are some drop shots.  They don't have to be Waldneresque perfect drop shots,,,even if they don't double bounce on the table, it helps make life difficult for opponents who are very solid returning smashes when they are camped far back from the table.  Often, when people have to rush in to lob from close to the table, their lob will be shorter and with less spin and are easier to put away.
