Hardbat Doubles Partner

Strategy

Currently, I play doubles with a hardbat player who likes to smash the ball.  What kind of serves, serve returns, and general hits can I do to help make it possible for my partner to smash it back?  I use a grippy inverted rubber that is still pretty new if that helps.  Thanks a bunch

Hi Tuan,

I would do some simple backspin and no spin serves to help your partner with getting an attacking ball.  If you make the serve too complicated it will make it more difficult for him.

Tactics Against A Defensive Chopper

A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.

Do you recommend a short 2 bounce serves or a long and fast 1 bounce?

I would do a fast backspin serve or a short serve.
