Receiving
Hi guys,
I recently joined a club and I've been really struggling against players who use spin a lot. Balls that I'd normally return well are either going into the net or flying off sideways.
Generally speaking, how do you handle spin? I've watched your videos and tried to apply the things I learnt, but I'm finding it really hard to put into practice successfully.
Thanks,
Sean
Hi Sean,
Spin is one those things that makes our game difficult. It is a matter of learning the effect of the spin first. Watching to see which way the spin is taking the ball and the being able to counter it by using your bat at correct angles.
We are going to cover this in our new DVD, Receiving Secrets Revealed which we are filming this month.

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
