why does ma long change grip? he loses way too many points because of that.  and why does you and jeff change grip? you say that is a small change, but I've seen that its bigger than u are telling us!

Hi Eirik,

I certainly wouldn't question too much about what Ma Long does.  If he is doing it I think the first thing I do is see why he does it.

I don't feel like Jeff and I change our grip very much.  In which situations do you see it?

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.

from backhand to forehand. you have ur thumb up both on forehand on backhand on forehand, but jeff changes his grip a bit more than u. i know that u can use more wrist buy changing grip and make ur pointer finger shorter in backhand and longer in forehand. ive seen it when jeff is showin us backhand loop, and counter hit. and when u are blocking, cant remember the videos.

A new question. how hard is it for you to have exact the same grip? and did u lose points because u changed grip, when u played as a player?

I think keeping a similar grip is useful so that when the ball comes fast at you it is easier to cope on both sides.  There will always be a little bit of change.  I never felt I had an issue with my grip when playing.
