Fukuhara's high toss forehand serve

Serving

Hi Pingskills!

With the US national championships coming up in a few weeks, I've been trying to get a grasp on two new services, one being the reverse pendulum and a high toss service.  When trying the high toss service, I looked to Fukuhara's serves for guidance.  I realized (but I may be incorrect), that she keeps all of the fingers on the bat during the duration of the serve.  Isn't it more effective to only use the thumb and index finger when serving? Why does she do this, and if I am trying to learn a high toss serve, is this a safer way to approach this?

Thank you guys!

Hi Michael,

Firstly I think if you are trying to learn a new serve with only a couple of weeks to go, it is a bit difficult.  It is good to keep going with it but don't plan on relying on it at the Nationals.

I think it is better to relate the fingers off the handle to generate more spin.  I am not sure if Ai releases her fingers a little when serving.  Hard to see it.
