Alois,

My backhand is much better than my forehand. Is there anything that I should be doing other than practicing?

Hi Tony,

If you want to make your forehand more dominant you can change the angle of your stance slightly.  You probably stand quite straight on to the table or even with your right foot slightly forward.  If you do, then try moving your left foot a little more forward.  This will get your body into a better position to make the forehand.

It is OK to be backhand dominant though if that suits your game.

Tony you are very unique, most of players always have problem with their bakhand and I'm one of them....

I have the same situation. And for a leftie is it a advantage for me being a leftie with a dominant backhand?

Hi Ron,

Yes it can be an advantage because it is easier for you to get the ball out wide to the right handers forehand.

im the same. my backhand is very strong which wins me alot of easy points cause ppl often hit to the supposed weak backhand. Now im really trying to everything with my forehand to improve it as my forehand is real inconsistent and loses me games.

Hi George and Danish,

Try to just turn your feet slightly towards the forehand.  SO if you are both right handers, bring your left foot forward or your right foot away from the table.  This will put you in a more comfortable position to make forehands.

Hello, Galella. When I started playing I found that I could not even understand the shakers forehand. Fortunately someone offered me a pen-holders racket. With the pen hold style you hold the racket basically with your fingers. This way you can always find the correct angle to hit the ball, either hitting or pushing or blocking. Needless to say I fell in love with pim-pong once I saw I could develop the whole spectrum of shots needed in a game. When you see yourself hitting loops and loop drives with your forehand, automatically will look for a better position at the table. By the way, I am also lefty and very backhand prone.

For me, I find it easier to hit the ball lower with my backhand but not my forehand. I also find it easier to do a backhand topspin, but with my forehand, I mostly use it to hit winners, but not forehand topspins. There's something wrong with my forehand stroke for a forehand topspin because I keep lifting the ball too high and I have the bad habit of crossing the stoke over my center line.
