Forehand Topspin

Strokes

I am sorry if you have answer this question. I don't seem to find the answer.

For the forehand and backhand  topspin strokes, which part of the racket should I first contact the ball? I am thinking hitting near the top would help to generate the most top spin as it would have the longest contact with the ball. However, I see Jeff hitting most of his topspin strokes just below the middle of the racket. Is that the optimum spot? Or does it vary based on incoming ball movement and spins?

Thank you

Hi SIdney,

It is better to hit the ball near the top of the racket.   It is often difficult to tell where it is hitting on the video.

The Finish Position

There are 3 basic areas to focus on when learning a stroke: 1) The position of your feet. 2) The starting position of your bat. 3) The finishing position of your bat. Of all these 3 elements the finish position is the most critical. Watch this video to find out why.
