I still have problems countering a chop, whenever I try to topspin loop a chop 8 out of 10 times it goes in the net. Could you please assist as I play it with both forhand and backhand.

Hi Julien,

This is a common problem when learning the topspin against backspin. The backspin will grip into your rubber and drag the ball downwards. To counter this you need to have a vertical swing (from low to high). Take a look at both our lessons on the forehand topspin against block and the forehand topspin against backspin. Notice how the swing against the backspin ball is more vertical. The more backspin on the ball, the more you will need to lift the ball. It is also important to get a brushing action on the ball to generate the topspin required to make your shot dip.

Try these tips out and let us know how you get on.
