Dear Jeff and Alois:

At times, while receiving my opponents serve, I tend to get more confused whether to play it with my backhand or forehand.  I am a beginner in table tennis.   There is a lot of thought going in my mind while receiving my opponent's serve.  I feel that I can generate more power with my forehand than backhand, but still I need to play all kinds of stroke in table tennis.

Kindly give your valuable guidance.

With Kind Regards,
Ram

Hi Ram,

This is called your crossover point where you need to crossover from backhand to forehand.  This can be a confusing area.  If you have a stronger forehand then whenever you get to this area you should favour your forehand.

By watching the ball carefully during the service you will pick up the direction faster and be able to make a decision quicker.
