Strokes
Hi pingskills,
I have a chinese looping style as it is a big forward movement and uses a lot of fiction from my rubber to create a lot of spin and good speed. When I play, I often finish a little over my shoulder instead of in a "salute" position. I find this MUCH more comfortable and there seems to be more effective compared to when I try to go a more central finish postion.
My stroke is quite large especially because of a large body turning motion. This makes the over the shoulder follow through more comfortable. This stroke is very useful and produces very nice pure topspin dip.
Is it ok to keep such a finish position or should I alter my stroke into a more orthadox loop, therefore finishing in a more central "salute" position.
Hi Tevia,
I would need to see the stroke to comment accurately, but the stroke itself sounds OK. What you do need to be careful of when you finish at your shoulder is the recovery.
By swinging through to your shoulder you are not using the right side of your body effectively. This should move with your stroke which will mean that your shoulder is also moving. That is why we recommend that you should finish at a mid point of your body rather than the left hand side.

Hi Alois
I don't really understand what you mean by using the right side of my body effectively, could you explain this in more detail please?
Also, when you say the stroke is okay, do you think I should put a lot of effort into fixing this or could I stick with it and just account for it's disadvantages and advantages?
Thanks in Advance

Oh, and somthing else I just remembered. If you were to imagine my stroke, look at timo boll's forehand, he sometimes finishes at his shoulder. My stroke is quite similar excemp it is bigger and with much more body rotation, I sometimes rotate to 90 degrees to the table to get a more powerful shot off an easier ball.
Again thanks in advance

Okay thanks
Could you give me a guide to find a confortable finish position? eg. put your straight facing... then bend your elbow... etc. When I try to do a better finish, it fells uncomfortable, like my raquet is blocking the top of my vision. Should I not finish so much in the middle of my body, ie. more towards my forehand side to stop this problem?
