When I hit forehand topspin, it either goes into the net or too high so that my opponent crushes it into my face- should push forward? Is it something with my body movement?

Hi Hanson,

The height of the shot will depend on the path of your stroke and the contact.  To get it just right, you need to practice the stroke repetitively for many months.  This will allow you to get used to the different shots that are coming in and how to deal with them and have enough control to place the ball where you want it.
