Foam Cleaner and VOC

Hi Pingskills,

I have been maintaining my rubbers with Stiga Energy Foam Cleaner for over 15 years. It's the best form of rubber cleaner I have used. I have also tried water spray and a water-based cleaner, but they weren't as effective in restoring the tackiness of the rubber as the foam cleaner.

I have read that some of the rubber cleaning agents contain VOC and therefore are banned in tournaments. Would you know if the Stiga foam cleaner I'm using contains VOC? In general, how would I know if a product contains VOC or not?

Apart from the foam cleaner, what other cleaning agent would you recommend in restoring a dusty bat back to its original tacky state?

Thanks

Tommy (Melbourne)

Hi Tommy,

Sorry I have taken so long to answer this one but we had to go to the top.

We asked our supplier who in turn went to Stiga who in turn went to their supplier of the Energy Foam Cleaner.  A long chain but worthwhile to get it from the top.

This is their response:

Dear Sir,

kindly note that the foam of this article does not contain any VOC......, but the propellant of this article is propane-butan and this propellant is VOC. After spraying on tha bats the propellant evaporates immediately so that the foam does not contain VOC.... but the spray can is not VOC-free. We hope you understand this problem. We are sure that the ENEZ testing machine will not realize that the propellant is VOC.

I guess that means it is OK to use.
