Hi PingSkills Which is better ? The fast or the slow topspin ? As what i know that you like the slow topspin. Why ? As i think the fast one can trouble the opponent rather the slow one.

Hi Frendy,

They are both effective.  The best is to be able to play both and keep your opponent guessing. When you have the opportunity to play a fast ball and finish the point then you should.  I think not enough players think about the slower topspin as well.

I try to put fast topspin most of the time. But when you're are doing semi out of table- just out of table loop, you should always make it as slow as possible. BUt when i they mean slow, it is not necessary slow. It just means you focus a lot on spin which makes it pretty fast anyways

How do you do a slow topspin, and normally in what situations would you use it?

Thanks

Hi Tmothy,

To do the slower topspin have a more vertical stroke and a finer brushing contact.  We have a lesson on it in our Master Classes as well.

about the more vertical stroke, i just tried it some times and it make the ball go up and make them easy to smash it
i saw many players do that topspin that start from low and make more vertical stroke just like simon gerada but he can make the ball still low without the horizontal movement

so how to fix that ?

You dont use it much except if the ball is just out of table. Alois made a vid on this one i think. Creates variation but otherwise dont use it as often. Slow topspin does not have to be high. have a forward momentum and maximum of brushing

Frendy, close the angle of your bat.  This will get the ball lower.

Hi Alois, I just practiced with my friend, when there's no spin on the ball, he wait the ball to come down below the table and he topspin the no spin ball by brushing the ball below the table. What make me shocked is that the ball is go up low and not high (just like when lift the ball) and when it touch the table, the ball kicked out so fast ! I think this is because the amount of the topspin right ?

First, how to return that ball ? then how to make that stroke as i see it's very effective as make the opponent shocked with the slow ball and will kicked off fast !

please for the answer, thank you.

This is an effective shot.  You need good touch to be able to keep the ball ball and still have topspin on it.  You have a low margin of error to get it past the end of the table and then over the net.  Practice the stroke. The basics are the same just you need to practice getting the accuracy.
