Hi Alois

how do i fake my pendulum serve? For example, how do i do a backspin serve
while acting as if I'm doing a side spin serve or do a reverse pendulum acting as if I'm doing a pendulum serve?

Hi Ruwantha,

This is an advanced technique.  We cover it in our Serving Secrets course.  We also are going to add more lessons on the subject to our Premium lessons.

The main principle is to keep your serve swing for the different serves as similar as possible.  In the Pendulum swing one way is to contact the ball during different parts of the swing.  If you hit the ball when your swing is still going down it will have backspin.  If you hit it later in the swing when the bat is going up then it will have topspin.  The closer you can get the contact to the bottom on the swing, the harder it is for your opponent to tell what type of spin is on the ball.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.
