Strokes
Hi Alois. When I try to do a topspin loop for example, I can’t actually get the ball to drop down. Like when I try to do it, the ball usually flies off the end of the table. If I want it to stay on though, I need to flick my wrist, but it doesn’t have a lot of power and my opponents can easily counter. Should I still swing hard and fast but hit the ball at a different point? Or should I go for a fine brushing contact? (When I try the brushing contact, it’s too fine and the ball is slow with a tiny amount of spin)
Hi,
Try to hit the ball behind the ball but still brush the ball on contact. This will give you a mix of topspin and speed. It sounds like you are brushing the ball too fine.
How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
