Okay, so it's the weekend and I have no one to practice table tennis with. My table doesn't fold up on one side, so I can't hit against that. Do you guys have any drills that I could practice in these circumstances, like bouncing the ball on one side of the paddle to help with control or something like that?

Hi Steve,

Yes, do lots of bouncing routines with your bat. Try bouncing on both sides alternately, try using the edge of the bat or giving yourself a few different combinations to challenge your self.

You could also push your table up against a wall and hit that way so the ball comes back to you.

Try getting spin on the ball.  Just hit the ball onto the floor and see if you can use spin to make it come back to you.  Then see if you can make the ball turn sideways on the floor.  Experiment and see what other types of spin you can get and what other pattrens you cna make on the floor with the path of the ball.

Any hitting you can do is useful.

Ok, cool.

Do you think I could effectively improve my stroke (if no one was around to practice with) by dropping the ball on the table and just hitting it?

It is hard to work on your strokes from a dropped ball as it does not accurately represent what you will be receiving and your swing will have to be altered.  You can work on improving your serves (it is the same with or without an opponent) or smashes (most of the time when you are smashing you receive a lob which is very vertical just like dropping the ball).  Obvioulsy Alois's suggestions should be taken first.
