Hey guys, I have been turning into a defensive player lately and have been chopping a lot. I noticed the sometimes the ball will have a nice arch after a good chop and finds the other side of the table with heavy backspin. The problem is that sometimes, seeming randomly, the ball has a very flat flight pattern with almost no backspin with the same exact stroke. When this happens the ball either gets smashed because there is no spin or it sails straight into the net. At first I thought it was because of the spin my opponent was putting on the ball, but after several instances with all of the same spin it randomly happens. Now I'm starting to think there is a flaw in my stroke. It would be of great help to get some expert advice on this. Thank you, you guys are awesome.

Hi Dan,
It does sound like there is a flaw. You have to remember that technique takes a long time to master to a stage where you are doing it consistently in different circumstances.
Just continue to do a lot of training with your stroke. Watch our lessons on the Forehand Chop and the Backhand Chop. Then just get out there and do the repetitions.
If you hit the ball the same way off the same ball, then you will get the same result. That is what repetitive training will give you.
