Strokes
Hi Coach,
I want to ask how to play drive against backspin and topspin. I know at higher level topspin shot is required but i want to take lesson from you guys regarding drive against backspin/topspin.
Thanks
Trilochan
Hi Trilochan,
To make a drive against a topspin stroke is not too difficult but a bit more risky than playing a topspin. A drive or a topspin are just extensions of each other. The topspin is an extended drive, just brushing over the ball a bit more to generate the topspin.
It is more difficult to drive the backspin ball. You need to open the face of your bat to counter the backspin. It is a risky stroke and one that you will need a lot of practice with as there is very little margin for error on it. It is a matter of getting th angles exactly right to get the ball on the table.
We show you how to play a chop block and then explore whether the chop block is a good option in a rally.
