hi coach, i have lately been really fatiigued during my sessions, and it may be due to my drinking quite a lot of red bull. do you think this is a bad idea because ive heard that caffeine dehydrates you, i do drink lots of water all the time though, i find this drink good for boosting my energy at other times when not playing, but do you think i should stay away from caffeine drinks during training and go for other isotonic type sport drinks as well as water? and is there a type of food you favour eating just before a 2 hour table tennis session whether league play or just club nights for good energy levels. i usually have a pasta meal hour and half before training, but lately am more fatigued even quite early in the session. thanks.

Hi Andrew,

I wouldn't recommend those types of high energy drinks.  You are much better off drinking water and perhaps some istonic types drinks.  Other things that you can use are diluted fruit juices.  Try to get the ones that have no added sugar.

As far as food, yes pasta is good.  Even for luch may be better to give it time to digest.

I like eating fruit buns and drinking water or a combination of water and sports drinks.  I find these maintain my energy levels.

I hope this helps.

During a training session, when I get fatigue during multiball, I stop and regroup. During that time I take small sips of water. Why small sips? When you play after you drank a lot of water, you will feel discomfort and maybe vomit what you drank. If you look at the pros, they do this during time out. Be sure to drink a normal temperature water during or after you play. Sure a cold drink is refreshing but your throat might get tonsillitis and maybe a disease that the doctor may have to punch a hole in your throat and you can't eat anymore through you mouth (A friend of mine got this disease because after a long tiring day, he drank a a lot of cold drinks) Some tennis professionals eat Banana during a break or change points. Banana is easy to digest and brings back lost energy.
