Training
What sort of training drills can I use to improve fluidity and timing on intermediate players?
Hi Fabian,
I think the main thing is to get them to put attention on the tension in different parts of their body initially.
Then do a lot of drills where they start with something simple like hitting from one position. As they start to feel smooth with that, then increase the difficulty by increasing speed or placement options. They will get more tense again so let them work through that till they stat to feel smooth again.
The most important thing is getting their attention there.
Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.
