Hi,

Can you say that drills are essential or are plenty of matches required to become a good table tennis player?

Hi,

To improve you need a mixture of both

The drills will improve your technique and make good technique become natural for you.

The games will improve your ability to play points and work on strategies and the mental side of your game.

If you take a look at our Training Secrets section we provide a lot of handy ideas on training.  Also look at the free download of the Training Plan which gives you an outline of a structure for your training sessions.

#42 - Study Your Opponent

This is the second training plan focusing on match strategy. Last week we looked at your strengths and building a game around that. This week you should examine one of your competitors and pick out their weaknesses. Then you can design some training drills to expose those weaknesses. By doing this you'll be able to exploit them in a match situation and win points more easily.
