Drill to improve forearm and wrist action

Strokes

Hi.

Could you suggest a drill for increasing the speed of my forearm and wrist to improve both my serve and rallying? I would like to be able to put much heavier spin on the ball, both topspin and backspin. My primary focus is forehand but a drill that applies to backhand would also be good.

Hi Susan,

I think the best way to improve this is by constant practice of these two things while focusing on the firearm and wrist action.  For the forehand, do repetitive forehand from one position but think about only hitter fast your forearm it's coming through.  Focus on keeping the arm relaxed while doing this.

For serving, get a bucket of balls and practice your serving again with focus purely on the wrist.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
