Strategy
Hello Jeff and Alois,
I would like to know What can I do to win a point in a match, What is more important while playing table tennis?
Hi Victor,
A good basic strategy to follow is to serve the ball short to stop your opponent attacking, and then try to make the first strong topspin yourself. If you can be the attacker you will increase your chances of winning the point.
To implement this the first thing I would do is to work on improving your basic strokes including your serve and return of serve. Take a look through our online lessons and focus on improving the strokes you use most in a match. I would suggest that you start with the counter hit strokes, then the topspin strokes and pushes. And as every point starts with a serve make sure you work on your serve and your return. Our DVD Serving Secrets Revealed will help you with your serve. We are also planning on releasing a new DVD on the return of serve later in the year. By raising your skill level in these areas you will start to win points.
Try out these few tips and let us know how you get on.
Shibaji Datta is a hot favourite in this match up against the unusual style of Brian Berry who loves to mix the game up with some great defensive play and some whippy forehand attacks.
