Do Blades have ITTF certifications like rubbers?
Hi Rick,
Blades do not have ITTF certifications. Only rubbers need to be ITTF-approved for use in sanctioned competitions. This is why rubbers carry the ITTF logo and an approval number on the surface.
For blades:
There are no ITTF regulations requiring approval or branding.
The main blade requirements in the Laws of Table Tennis are:
The blade must be flat and rigid.
At least 85% of the blade by thickness must be natural wood.
If other materials are used (carbon, glass fiber, etc.), they can only be a thin layer (max 7.5% of thickness or 0.35 mm, whichever is smaller).
Players can use any brand or even custom-made blades as long as they meet these rules.
The thickness of a table tennis table is the most important aspect of a table to ensure you get a true consistent bounce. Other things to consider are the net, portability, and storage space.
